The Ancient Romans used thyme as a symbol of courage and they burned it in their homes to evoke the spirit of courage in those who inhaled it.  It has a fresh, sweet, herbaceous aroma.  It can aid in concentration, memory, depression, self-confidence and feelings of exhaustion.  It strengthens the respiratory system helping with colds, flu, bronchitis, sinusitis and sore throats.  Thyme can help boost the immune system, aid digestion, help suppress appetite, and relieve intestinal cramps and gas.  It supports skin health by treating acne, cuts, wounds, rashes and since it is a powerful antioxidant, it can aid in slowing the skin’s aging process also.  It is also an excellent insect repellant.

Blends well with bergamot, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, rosemary and tea tree (melaleuca).

Uses:

Acne:  Mix 2-3 drops thyme oil with 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil.  Apply to the area.

Concentration/Memory:  Diffuse or place 3 or 4 drops on a cotton ball and inhale.

Cuts, burns, wounds, skin infections:  Apply 2-3 drops to the area.

Depression:  Diffuse or place 3 or 4 drops on a cotton ball and inhale. Apply 3-4 drops to the sole of your feet.

Insect repellant:  Mix 10 drops of thyme and 4 oz of witch hazel in a spray bottle.  Spray on yourself and/or your clothes.

Respiratory issues: Diffuse or apply topically to your chest.

Safety:

Do not take if you are pregnant.  Avoid high doses if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy. If you are nursing, being treated for other health issues or taking medications, be sure to consult your healthcare provider.
